About The Rhondda Arts Festival (RAFT)

The Rhondda Arts Festival (RAFT) is an annual event aimed at celebrating and showcasing the wide range of creativity and talent that exists throughout all art forms in Rhondda, and to also bring the finest visiting artists to the region. The scope of the festival encompasses music, theatre, dance, literature, painting, photography, sculpture and more!

Rhondda Arts Festival (RAFT) is a registered charity, with a board of trustees that shares a commitment to create a festival that is fun, innovative and inclusive, and encompasses all art forms. Our vision is about partnership working, community involvement, and performing & exhibiting work by people of all ages and abilities.

The inaugural festival took place in 2018 and featured performances by Jools Holland, Lesley Garrett & the Welsh National Opera Company, Only Men Aloud and many more!

RAFT 2019 then featured West End & Broadway star Kerry Ellis, comedian & actor Omid Djalili, and Blackadder & Time Team star Sir Tony Robinson. In total, RAFT 2019 featured a month long series of over 50 live events, which included our C-RAFT Beer & Gin Festival, outdoor movie screenings, FREE Arts & C-RAFT Family Fun Day, Book Talks, Exhibitions, Public Art Projects and much, much more!

RAFT 2020 was originally planned to run from Thursday June 4th through to July 4th, with the main "Big Weekend" being held in Treorchy June 25th to 27th. Given the Covid-19 pandemic however, we were forced to cancel the 2020 season and reschedule to June 4th to July 4th 2021. Join us there!

RAFT continues to do all we can to support our community and local artists through this challenging period, using our social media channels to share regular updates, creative opportunities for the community, and updates we receive from local artists.

These updates can be found on:

RAFT understands the difficult position that local artists, venues and our community continue to find themselves in with the current situation, and we wish to try to help in any way we can. We are always keen to hear from performers, venues, volunteers and partners who want to support the arts and the community of the Rhondda, both in the current situation and beyond into 2021.
